Deadly Car Accident
Pennsylvania State Police have reported that a head-on car accident in Antrim Township has resulted in the death of a 76 year old male. The Police stated that the driver of a 2003 Buick Century was heading North on U.S. 11 when a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta traveling south on U.S. 11 unexpectedly read-ended a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban and then swerved into oncoming traffic striking the Volkswagen Jetta. The accident happened near 12876 Molly Pitcher Highway.
As a result of the collision, which occurred on December 3, 2014, the 76 year old man was taken to Meritus Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Also, injured were the 20 year old driver of the vehicle which swerved into oncoming traffic, and the 13 and 17 year old passengers of the vehicle operated by the deceased male. Each was a resident of Falling Waters, West Virginia, and was transported to the Hagerstown, Maryland hospital with minor injuries.
Under Pennsylvania law, persons who are injured as the result of the negligent actions of another person are entitled to seek financial compensation as the result of their injuries. This includes negligence that results in motor vehicle accidents. A successful claim could result in financial compensation for both economic and non-economic damages. These types of claims include both pre-trial settlements and jury trial awards.
Further, when a person suffers death as the result of another person’s negligence, a wrongful death claim can be pursued against the negligent driver. This could help to stabilize a family financially for their losses, including wages, consortium, and much more. The potential types of damages and recovery depend on the facts of each individual case. This is where an experienced car accident attorney can help navigate the family of the deceased through the difficult times.
